This Week's Distractions

  1. Getting Kids into the Study Habit

Depending on your hemisphere, it's either the start of a new school year or you're half way through - either way it's a good time to take stock of how to develop great study habits for your children that will take them into high school and beyond - and the sooner you start the more embedded the habits. 1. A little exercise first... let the children run in the backyard, skateboard or throw a ball for 30 minutes when they get home. A little exercise provides a break between school and home and gets the blood pumping, upping the oxygen levels in the brain. 2. Find a quiet study spot that is away from the family noise in the kitchen Continue reading →
  2. Stuck for healthy-sounding resolutions? Here are a few:

2013 Happy New Year HandbandHandband knows a thing or two about new year's resolutions (we've made a few in our time), and the pressure that comes from having to have a couple of healthy ones. If you're stuck for good ones to impress friends and family with, here's our top three: (And don't forget to check out the Handbands website to see how we can help keep your family happy and healthy.) 1.Treat health as a long term plan. Don't aim for short term 'lose 5 kilos by Feb' type goals; go for a longer term non-weight commitment like walking for at least 30 minutes a day and eating two vegetables a day... and build up on a monthly basis. 4. Survive Christmas with kids

The funnest time of year (if you're a child), the most stressful time of year (if you're an adult)? Given that it rolls around in an unrelenting fashion every 12 months the only real option is to embrace it... with a little pre-planning. And if you're braving the big city department stores, check out the  Handbands website to see how we can help keep your family safe. The kids might like to have fun with wristbands and keychains, dog tags and more at the same time. Budget ideas: 1.Movie afternoons at home with their friends... Continue reading →
  5. How Parenting Has Changed in the Digital Age

A snapshot of parenting news from here and around the world... ...and don't forget, Handbands are a great way to promote your club or school. Check out the  Handbands website to see how to have fun with keychains to sell with the school name on them, to dogtags and timestable bands and collectibles. 1. We have a new product to shout about! If you're running an event of some sort that relies on a voucher or stamp to get in and out, 'pay' for rides, drinks or eats, then consider the new Tyvek single use handbands. Print them with whatever you like, they wrap around and stick on a person's wrist, they're weather-proof and won't tear. 2. Are you worried about what the kids might access online?
