School wristband mistakes to avoid.
Five briefs we see go wrong, and the fix for each.
- Standard Tyvek for a swim carnival. Wears through in two hours of pool water. Specify aquatic-rated Tyvek for any in-water event — it's a different stock.
- One band colour across every year level. Defeats the entire point of a senior-only event. Two or three colours per tier — staff identify year groups from the back of the room.
- Ordering exactly the student count. Always add 10-15% buffer. Lost bands, late enrolments, replacement requests. Cheap insurance against day-of headaches.
- Booking school-formal bands in week 38. Custom silicone needs 7-14 business days. Year 12 formals usually fall in week 40-42. Book in week 30-32 for stress-free supply.
- Using primary-school band sizes for high-school students. Two adult sizes available. Wrong size = bands slide off wrists. Specify the year group when ordering.

Which wristband suits a school formal?
Tyvek with a tamper-evident adhesive closure. Print the school crest, event name, date and sequential ID. Use a second colour for staff and chaperones so the door team reads access tiers from a distance. If the venue serves alcohol, add "U18 — no alcohol service" to the student-colour band.
Will the bands survive a full-day swim carnival?
Only if you specify aquatic-rated Tyvek — not all Tyvek stock is the same. Standard Tyvek breaks down in two hours of pool water. The aquatic-rated laminate survives a full carnival day. Ask for it explicitly on your quote.
Can we match exact school or house colours?
Yes. Send the Pantone or hex code for each colour and we match exactly. For schools with four houses, the same artwork prints across four runs in four colours — one design, four colour-coded outputs. Stock house colours (red, blue, yellow, green, etc.) carry the lowest cost; custom Pantones add a small premium for ink-matching.
How fast can we get bands for a snap event?
Plain or single-colour Tyvek can ship inside the same week. Custom-printed Tyvek typically dispatches within five business days. Silicone runs 7-14 business days because of the mould-and-cure cycle. Call 1300 368 980 if your deadline is tight — rush production may be possible.
Do you accept school purchase orders and ABN invoicing?
Yes. Send a school PO with your ABN and we invoice on standard 30-day terms. P&C committees, finance officers and school admins all use the same flow. Quote first, PO second, production third — same as any school supplier.
What's the minimum order for school silicone bands?
Custom silicone runs start from as few as seven units on some SKUs — useful for staff team-builds, leadership groups, or pilot batches before a school-wide rollout. Full-school awareness-campaign runs (200-2,000+) hit the unit-cost sweet spot.
Are there eco-friendly options for our sustainability committee?
Yes. Recycled-content Tyvek, RPET woven bands (made from recycled drink bottles), and bamboo or cotton woven all reduce single-event landfill. Silicone bands that students keep as keepsakes are the strongest fit for sustainability committees — the band goes home rather than getting binned at the gate.
