  1. Jersey City boy's 'Hurricane Sandy Relief' bracelets have already raised $1,000

    Inspired by his family’s good fortune to have escaped Hurricane Sandy’s wrath, a Jersey City boy has turned his attention to helping others who weren’t as fortunate. “I saw all the people on TV. . . and felt bad for them,” said Peter Coar, 9, who has raised $1,000 so far for the relief effort. “So we decided to make the bracelets to raise money for the people whose homes got destroyed.” Peter’s mother, Jill Coar, said their family home never lost power and sustained no major damage from the storm. But when her son watched the news and saw the devastation, he thought about ways he could help.
