The coronavirus pandemic has resulted in many major fundraising events and initiatives to remain on hold or become rescheduled. However despite the pandemic in place, this doesn’t have to stop people fundraising. As such, event organisers can continue to hold fundraising events and practices, whilst being mindful of government regulations. Here are Handband’s top tips and ideas to keep you from raising funds during this difficult time.

Virtual Events

Unable to host a planned fundraising event due to COVID-19 restrictions and changes? Plan on hosting a virtual event as an alternative. There are many platforms available to do this, and you can charge people a fee to attend to go towards fundraising funds. To create a sense of excitement and community around your virtual event consider including promotional Handband products to achieve cut-through and longevity for your message. We have a big range of promotional products in silicone too, not just wristbands and these are a great way to make your fundraising guests feel more involved despite being online. Virtual event ideas include:

  • Online yoga session
  • Online bootcamp session
  • Online mediation classes
  • Online cooking class
  • Trivia Night
  • Virtual Run/Walk
  • Virtual Paint Night
  • Virtual Raffle

Social Media challenges

Another great way to raise funds is to create an exciting and innovative social media challenge that centres around making donations and inviting others to take on the challenge in an attempt to spread the message further through their network. An iconic example of this is the Ice Bucket Challenge, which was an activity involving the dumping of a bucket of ice water over a person's head on social media, to promote awareness of the disease amyotrophic lateral sclerosis and encourage donations to research.

Clear unwanted items to raise funds

Furthermore, consider setting up a virtual marketplace to sell second hand and preloved items.  Gumtree is Australia’s free marketplace to sell cars, furniture, electronics, clothing and more. Additionally, Depop is a peer-to-peer social shopping app that encourages the purchasing of preloved clothing. Donate the money from your sales to the given cause and fund. Encourage others in your organisation and community to do the same.

Collaborate with public figures

Consider ways in which you can collaborate with the community, government and the business sector to best meet the needs triggered by the crisis. Even collaborating with public figures such as influencers relevant in your industry will all help get the word out about the cause and in turn help raise funds.

Remain positive

Remember everyone is going through these tough times and together we will overcome it. Don't give up your passions and projects, continue to think outside of the box and find solutions to problems.
