Fund raising events are a logistical exercise that you have to get right. So below is a quick Handband checklist for making sure you get the basics right.

Don't forget, Handbands are a great way to promote your club or school. Check out the Handbands website to see how to have fun with keychains to sell with the school name on them, to dogtags and timestable bands and collectibles.

1. Make sure you have a fundraising goal (or total amount). This will filter all consequent decisions through the 'will this cost to much to have X' sieve. In other words, there's no point in putting on a Ball if the funds raised barely cover costs.

2. Settle the budget early. Cost overruns are easy when you have enthusiastic amateurs assisting. Decide the budget and the address the staff required, invitation costs, food and alcohol budgets, entertainment, venue hire fees, security costs and hirables (like marquees and glasses).

3. Have a boss. Someone needs to charge, make final decisions and be the 'go to' person on the night. A committee with no nominal head can dither too much and make deciosions on the run a nightmare.

4. Practice your event run through. And then practice it again so you get the timings correct and everyone is comfortable with the 'flow' of the night.

Do you need to identify guests easily for passouts? Do you have a bar at an open venue that needs the guests to be easily identifiable? Are you running an age-based event that may need kids of different ages to be readily gathered for their race (or whatever)? Then consider the new Tyvek single use handbands. Print them with whatever you like, they wrap around and stick on a person's wrist, they're weather-proof and won't tear.
