A leading medical ID device producer is today urging medical professionals to educate their patients on the range of medical ID wristbands available to them in a bid to make medical information more readily available if an emergency situation should arise.

Mediband, the creators of the medical ID bracelets, has just launched in the UK and has produced a range of wristbands designed for patients with specific allergies, food intolerances or medical conditions. Mediband 's hospital specific range also includes alerts such as thickened fluids, falls risk, blood thinners, axillary lymph nodes and pacemaker recipient. Each band is accompanied by a wallet card that can be printed with all known allergies and conditions for the carrier, and can easily be taken anywhere.

The new NHS figures show a significant rise in the number of emergency adrenaline injectors given to patients to fight against severe allergies. 211.040 injectors were issued in 2008, compared with just 25,320 in 1995 a startling rise of more than 700%.

Michael Randall from Mediband said in a statement today: These new stats are very worrying. If medical professionals could help to educate their patients on the benefits of Medibands it would greatly ease the pressures of administering the correct treatment for emergency doctors, nurses and paramedics. It is so important that your patients understand that it could save their life.

Also on offer are a range of custom designed bands, ideal for including the telephone numbers of parents or next of kin, as well as custom reversible designer bracelets for those who wish to be more discreet but still need to communicate the relevant information in an emergency.
