1. If you're online reading this, you're probably also on facebook. What about your kids? They may soon be too if facebook gets its way. They're supposedly testing out mechanisms to make it safer for kids under 13 to have a facebook account. 2. Every day in the world of parenting is a lesson learned. Usually the hard way. Crayons and kids left alone don't mix. Letting them pour their own milk is always a no-no. There's no such thing as 'just this once'. You've probably got your own list, but so has this blogger and maybe there's a clue in there for all of us.

3. So what is this helicopter parenting thing? If you do it, you probably know you do it, but can't stop. It's insidious and the media keeps stoking our fears and how about all that judgement in the park, in the school yard and at family gatherings? There's a new book out called Drop the Worry Ball and it gets a good rap here. The book's premise is to let kids take some of the (age-appropriate) responsibility for their safety and actions. The challenges in life are big and many and by doing everything for our kids without letting them experience the consequences of running too fast, not doing homework and staying up too late, we leave them without the skills to make their own way.
