As the one year anniversary of the Christchurch earthquakes approaches people are being encouraged to adorn an iconic red and black wrist band to show their support.  The official Bands 4 Hope wrist bands have become a universal way of showing support for people involved in the quakes, as well as being a way of raising funds to aid in the rebuilding effort.

With the one year anniversary of the quakes on Wednesday, February 22 the bands are also a tangible way for New Zealanders here and abroad to show their support.  Prince William has even sported a pair of Bands 4 Hope during his visit to the devastated city in March last year.  Organised and funded by TelstraClear the Bands 4 Hope was launched immediately after the February 2011 earthquake.

The company donated 200,000 black and red wristbands, which can be purchased for a $5 donation with all the money raised going directly to the Christchurch Mayoral Earthquake Fund.  TelstraClear CEO Dr Allan Freeth says Christchurch is one of New Zealand’s great cities and is world-renowned for its beauty, people and heart.  “The earthquakes affected people all across the world, and especially here at home. Christchurch is our home too.

“We have hundreds of staff and many thousands of customers there and we’re acutely aware of the pain, suffering and loss that the earthquake damage and continuing aftershocks cause. Wearing Bands 4 Hope not only shows your support for the city’s people, but also raises funds that are still badly needed.”
