Caitlyn Williams, an 11-year-old 5th grader from Du Quoin has a big heart for homeless and abused animals. With the homeless and abused animals of Perry County laying on her heart and mind, she decided to start a fund-raiser to benefit the Perry County Humane Society. She took all of her own birthday money and other monies she had accumulated over time and purchased 200 white rubber wrist bands with the saying “Be their voice, stop animal abuse.”

She chose the words “be their voice” herself because she says that animals cannot tell themselves when they are being abused and neglected and we are the ones who have to be their voice and step up and tell the authorities or animal control. She is selling these bands and giving the proceeds to PCHS. To date, she has sold over 100 wrist bands and collected over $276 for the humane society. These bands can be purchased for only $2. She is donating all the proceeds from the sales.

These bands can be purchased at Du Quoin Veterinary Clinic in Du Quoin (beside Larry’s Pit BBQ). Mr. Hill, the principal at her school, is also allowing Caitlyn to set up a table at school during lunch three times a week to sell them, too. Her friends, Olivia Hargis, Alyssa Loyd and Molly Dearmond are helping her sell them as well.

Perry County Humane Society is extremely grateful to Caitlyn and all who are helping her with this fundraising effort. PCHS is a 501(c)3 not for profit organization that runs entirely on donations and fundraisers. With Caitlyn’s generosity, hard work and selflessness, PCHS will be able to continue to rescue the homeless and abused animals of Perry county. Thank you Caitlyn from the bottom of our hearts.
