2013 Happy New Year HandbandHandband knows a thing or two about new year's resolutions (we've made a few in our time), and the pressure that comes from having to have a couple of healthy ones. 1.Treat health as a long term plan. Don't aim for short term 'lose 5 kilos by Feb' type goals; go for a longer term non-weight commitment like walking for at least 30 minutes a day and eating two vegetables a day... and build up on a monthly basis. By taking the pressure of performance oriented goaling out of the equation, you relax more, stress less... and yet still manage to lose weight while getting healthier.

2. Learn to lift weight properly. As we get older the body loses flexibility and the ability to bounce back from strains and tears. Lower back injury from incorrectly lifting weight (such as children out of car seats, boxes full of books and ladders out of an awkward space in the shed) is rife - and the injury will come back to haunt you.
