CLACTON MP Douglas Carswell is supporting the Gazette’s campaign against knife crime by showing off his wristband at Westminster.

As part of its Lives not Knives campaign, the Gazette has distributed thousands of wristbands to schools around Clacton.

People have also been dropping in to the office to pick the bands up – including Mr Carswell.

He said: “I think this is a really important initiative and the Gazette will have support from people right across the district and even the country with this.

“One of the things I can do to help is highlighting the issue by wearing the wristband and showing off the poster within my constituency and at Westminster.

“I have had people stop me and ask what it’s all about when they see the band. It becomes a talking point and that is a great way to build support for the campaign.

“I have had responses and been contacted by quite a few people on the back of this who have had direct experiences with the deadly effects knife crime can have.

“So many lives have been affected by violent crimes in our area.

“Because of that I think the wristband campaign really strikes a chord with a lot of people who feel very strongly about this.”
