FLORHAM PARK – What? Still not part of the “Restore the Shore” wristband wave?

Ridgedale Middle School student Amanda Bermel came up with the idea for the $5 wristbands in November, with proceeds going to the New Jersey Hurricane Sandy Relief Fund. You better get them while they’re hot – and while they’re still around.

The 13-year-old ordered 2,000 to sell, but the bands were so popular they were grabbed up fast, with only 150 left.

Did we say popular?

Make that mega-popular. Bermel’s original goal was to raise $4,000 for relief efforts. That amount, however, has nearly doubled. To date, she’s raised $7,400, said mom Cindy Bermel on Monday.

The Bermels already sent a $1,125 check to the Relief Fund, spear-headed by Mary Pat Christie, wife of Gov. Chris Christie. Another check for $5,080 was dispatched this week.

The bands can be purchased at numerous businesses, including Strandz Salon, 176 Columbia Turnpike, Cathy D, 182 Ridgedale Ave., Florham Park Pizza, 187 Columbia Turnpike, and Florham Park Liquors, 184 Columbia Turnpike, and at Investor Savings Bank, 16 Waverly Place, Madison.
