A lot of schools have a school motto. A lot of schools print them on everything that moves - from the school stationery to the website to the emails home to parents. But how do you get the kids to 'buy in' - notoriously cynical about such things as they are? Eden Public School on the southern NSW coast had an idea. They contacted us to talk about getting their motto - Resilience, Respect, Responsibility - printed onto our Handbands products and handing them out as incentive items and at various school activities. The children never really 'saw' the school motto even though it was in front of them all the time but they notice it on colourful, cool handbands on their wrists! Especially as the wearing of jewellery per se was not overly encouraged and this was a way of getting some buy in.

Fundraising for clubs and community groups has never been bigger or busier and the question for many is how to stand out, raise funds and achieve message memory. To make it work, the experts recommend 5 crucial steps:

1. Have a goal - how much, by when

2. Use a fund raising calendar - noting Mother's Day and the like, because these are great fundraising times of year

3. Know your suppliers - establish relationships you can trust

4. Farm out activities to a range of volunteers - don't leave it in the hands of the few

5. Coordinate your volunteers closely - have everyone on the same page, doing and saying the same thing
