Kaitlyn Hunt is a Florida teen who started dating another girl from her high school at the beginning of her senior year. The Hunt family says the other girl’s parents hated that their daughter was in a same sex relationship and has made it their mission to destroy Kate, which started with pressing charges against her. Kaitlyn’s parents are out today trying to raise support for their daughter, according to May 19 posts on the Free Kate Facebook page.

Steven Hunt and Kelley Hunt Smith are traveling to area parking lots to hand out bracelets. The green bands say, “Stop the hate, free Kate.” They started giving out bracelets yesterday. Within hours, people stopped by to collect 200 bracelets.

The Hunts are fighting for their daughter’s life. She faces a minimum of two years on house arrest because she was 18 and the girl she was dating was underage. The family wants to see the law changed, not just for their daughter, but for all young people, so that dating a fellow student doesn’t come with the potential of felony charges.
