Wheaton Baseball to Host Annual White Ribbon Campaign Fundraiser

The Wheaton College baseball team will play its annual White Ribbon Campaign game on Sunday, April 15 when the No. 6 ranked Lyons host Southern Maine at 1 p.m. at Sidell Stadium.

The Lyons will run a These Hands Don’t Hurt program in Balfour Hood this week, where members of the Wheaton community will be able to stamp their hands on a large sheet to signify their pledge to never commit, condone, or remain silent on violence against women and children. (more…)

Should Christians proclaim their faith by wearing a cross every day of their lives – a bit like a 21st century version of Richard the Lionheart with his cross-emblazoned tunic?The suggestion comes from Cardinal Keith O’Brien in Scotland who, in fairness, is suggesting something a bit more subtle than the Lionheart look (a lapel pin will do, he says.) Competition in Durand helps leukemia, lymphoma

A group of Durand elementary and junior high students went big with their fundraising efforts recently, bringing in nearly $1,100 for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s Pennies for Patients program.

In previous years, the fundraiser has netted $200 to $300, so student council adviser Taniya Bland wasn’t expecting such a large total.

“We don’t know what the grand total is until the end (of the three-week fundraiser),” Bland said. “I was quite shocked when we got over a thousand.”   (more…)

Appeals court hears Pa. ‘boobies’ bracelets case

PHILADELPHIA – April 11, 2012 (WPVI) – A federal appeals court is considering an eastern Pennsylvania school district’s efforts to ban on breast cancer fundraising bracelets that say “I (heart) boobies!”

The (Easton) Express-Times says the 3rd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals panel in Philadelphia heard opening statements Tuesday in the case, in which two Easton Area Middle School students say their freedom of speech rights were violated when they were suspended for wearing the bracelets in October 2010.

The district is appealing a federal judge’s ruling that the district cannot ban the rubber jewelry because it is not lewd, vulgar or distracting to the school day. (more…)

Oklahoma’s Enogex Leads Industry for Safety

“Safety is a value at Enogex, to make sure everyone returns home uninjured at the end of the day to their family,” said Mitchell, who wears a neon-orange rubber bracelet that reminds Enogex employees no matter whether in the field or in the office to “Live Safely.”
