Enterprising city lads lead support for ABs with handbands

When the Rugby World Cup kicks off next Monday, Timaru will be leading the nation supporting the boys in black with black bands.

New Zealand Rugby Football Union are “incredibly impressed” with five Timaru Boys High School year 13 students’ enterprising scheme to sell black wrist bands in support of the All Blacks, which will go on sale on Friday.

Remembering a Best Friend

Maureen Onda’s four years of athletic accolades at Century High have been special to her, but she’s more excited about being able to wear a certain jersey number next year in college.

When Onda takes the field in 2008 with George Mason’s women’s lacrosse team, she’ll be No. 18 in honor of Gretchen Brandt, who wore that number at Century three springs ago.

Identibands used by Hospital to prevent mix-up of babies

Benedictine Hospital officials will investigate the temporary mix-up of two newborn babies in the maternity ward last week, a hospital spokesman said.

The babies were placed with the wrong parents for less than a day before the mistake was realized.

Hospital spokesman Rob Baumstone said he doesn’t know whether it was the parents or nurses who first realized the mistake and he doesn’t know how the mistake happened in the first place.

Tomorrow night, Nick N Willy’s has opened their doors to anyone who wants to help out Hart Wide Receiver Brandon Arndt, who was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor two weeks after the final game of the season.
