UT Health Science Center Adopts Color-Coded Wristbands

Wednesday, July 9th, 2008
The University of Texas Health Science Center at Tyler has adopted a color-coded wristband warning system recommended by the Texas Hospital Association.

The THA is urging hospitals to adopt a standardized color coding.

“We have adopted the standardized colors recommended by the THA, because we want to do everything we can to ensure our patients are safe, said Dr. Kirk A. Calhoun, president of the hospital and a THA board member. “This is a simple step statewide that will add an extra level of protection for patients who may be at risk for falls or who are allergic to a specific medication.”
