Ewing offers blue wristbands to enourage efficient irrigation

PHOENIX — Ewing Irrigation Products is distributing free blue, silicone wristbands featuring the message, “Be True to Blue – Use Water Wisely” during Smart Irrigation Month (July). The wristbands will be available at 170 Ewing locations nationwide.

Smart Irrigation Month was named by the Irrigation Association to encourage efficient watering practices, technologically advanced irrigation products and water conservation during the month of July, when temperatures reach annual highs in many areas throughout the United States.

Peoria woman initiates uniform wristband system

Barb Averyt of Peoria recently spearheaded the effort to have uniform color wristbands for hospital patients, alerting health care workers to DNR, allergies and fall risk.(Mollie J. Hoppes/Daily News-Sun)
A Peoria woman is being recognized for spearheading an initiative that helps alert Arizona hospital workers of at-risk patients. And the program is expanding nationwide.

Sun Health Boswell and Del E. Webb Hospitals have been using the uniform color-coded wristbands since the program was introduced in the spring.

Black supporters to wear Mulrinji wristbands at Hurley trial

Hundreds of Aborigines and community supporters will wear bright yellow wristbands (pictured below) to the Townsville court next Tuesday when they gather to observe the trial of Senior Sergeant Chris Hurley who has been charged with the manslaughter and assault of Mulrunji Doomadgee in 2004 in the Palm Island watchhouse.

The wristbands are being worn to support the campaign for justice for all Aboriginal deaths in custody victims and as a direct counter to the decision by the Police Union to sell blue wristbands to raise funds for Hurley’s legal costs.

Wristbands Bound in Black

Supporting the All Black’s World Cup bid could see five Timaru Boys High School students pay for their university studies with $43,000 in their back pockets.

The year 13 boys think they have come up with a winner and have developed a black wrist band dubbed Blackattack in support of the All Blacks as part of their school’s Young Enterprise Scheme. They have already negotiated a contract with the New Zealand Rugby Football Union and are licensed to sell and market the black bands nationally, and already negotiating with seven nationwide suppliers to sell and distribute the product.

Lymphedema Alert Bracelets Improve Medical Awareness

Pat Malone had her lymph nodes removed as part of her breast cancer treatment, and for almost a decade she managed to keep her lymphedema, a chronic condition that causes swelling from an accumulation of fluid, under control. Then she decided to paint her kitchen.

Within days, the pain in her right shoulder was nearly unbearable, she said. She had chills and a fever of 105. Her arm was bright red and “wicked looking.”
