Church Hopes Bracelets Will Help Curb Griping
Can a bracelet help you stop complaining? A local church believes it is just the tool to silence gripers.
“It took about three and a half months,” said Linda LeMieux, who stopped complaining. “It took me … a considerable amount of time,” said Norman Heyder.
KMBC’s Donna Pitman reported that the Rev. Will Bowen at Christ Unity Church started the complaint-free movement last summer by giving bracelets to anyone who wanted to try and stop griping.
“It’s not easy. We complain more than we realize,” Bowen said.
The movement has caught on worldwide, and even landed the pastor a page in People Magazine.
Pitman reported that Bowen asked congregation members to wear the bracelets for three weeks. The bracelet is to help remind you not to complain. If you do, you have to take off the bracelet and put it on the other wrist and start again.
“Scientists say it takes 21 days for a chicken to hatch and 21 days for humans to develop a new habit,” Bowen said.
Bowen said he thought about getting into the habit of not complaining by looking at his own life.
“You name it, I complained about it … weather, health, church, friends,” Bowen said.
Bowen said it took him nearly four months, but he did it.
“Way more than 200,000 (bracelets) have been ordered or sent in more than 30 countries,” Bowen said.
