Garrett to head protest rock concert

Labor MP and Midnight Oil frontman Peter Garrett will head a Rockin’ For Rights concert following a protest march against the federal government’s new industrial relations laws in Sydney’s CBD next month.

Aussie bands including Youth Group, The Screaming Jets, Something for Kate, You Am I and the Hoodoo Gurus will perform at the event staged by Unions NSW.

Presidential Candidate Wears Cancer Awareneness Wristband

SAN FRANCISCO – Officially, John Edwards came before nearly 40 media members in downtown San Francisco Monday to talk about global warming and his call to ban new coal plants that don’t include clean-burning technologies.

But on his first day without his wife since the couple announced her reoccurrence of breast cancer last week, the Democratic presidential candidate found himself openly pondering how her illness will affect the dynamics and character of his campaign for the White House.

White Ribbon Campaign kicks-off

The Vera House Foundation kicks-off it’s 10 day White Ribbon Campaign to raise awareness about domestic violence. One in three women in America has been physically abused by a boyfriend of husband. The white ribbon campaign is just one way to raise awareness about domestic violence.

Wearing a white ribbon or wristband is a personal pledge never to commit, condone or remain silent about domestic abuse.

Wristbands To Honour A Beloved Teacher

When their beloved teacher Mary J. Beechko died Jan. 6, seventh- and eighth-graders at St. Anthony of Padua School, Dunmore, wanted to not only keep her memory alive, but to help others fight the disease that took her life.

Lauren Pace, 13, said her classmates learned of Lance Armstrong bracelets, which are sold to raise money for cancer research. Checking the Internet, they found teal-colored bracelets to fight ovarian cancer. Eighth-graders spearheaded sales of the bracelets as a tribute to their teacher.

“So far, we’ve sold around 200 at the school,” Lauren said.

Bloomington man chosen as Lance Armstrong Foundation runner

NORMAL – Though the yellow wristband stamped “LiveSTRONG” cost him just a dollar, it’s priceless to marathon runner Dan Crussell of Normal.

His father wore the symbol of the Lance Armstrong Foundation until his death in 2005. Crussell will wear it April 16 as one of eight people representing LAF at the 111th running of the Boston Marathon.

Crussell’s stepdaughter will cheer him on wearing an identical band her grandfather wore before he died of lung cancer earlier this year.
